Ingredients
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup water
1 1/2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup all purpose flour
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Directions
- In a small mixing bowl, add the cinnamon and sugar. Mix with a fork until combined. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, add the butter, water, and sugar. Mix over medium heat until melted together.
- Then add the flour. Stir until the mixture becomes thick and the flour is completely incorporated.
- Remove from the heat. Start heating a large frying pan with vegetable oil on medium high heat.
- Now take the slightly cooled dough and add the egg and vanilla. Stir together until combined and the dough becomes more batter-like. Transfer this to a piping bag fitted with a churro metal tip.
- Once the frying oil has heat, Squeeze the churro batter out of the bag and cut the dough at 2 inch pieces over the oil letting them fall in to begin frying.
- Turn the churros every few minutes, allow all sides to become golden brown and the inside to cook through. They should fry for about 10-12 minutes.
- Remove from the oil and let the churro bites drain.
- Add the churro bites to the cinnamon sugar mixture and toss together until heavily coated.
- Serve while still warm. Dip in a chocolate sauce if desired.
Notes
- To make a chocolate sauce, heat 3/4 cup of heavy cream and pour over 3.5 ounces of chopped chocolate. Stir together until smooth.
