Cinnamon Roll Monkey Bread

There’s nothing better than taking a classic recipe, like monkey bread to the next level with a few tweaks to a recipe. If you are looking for an even simpler monkey bread with cinnamon flavor, you are in the right place.

I’ll be showing you all how to make this sweet and gooey cinnamon roll monkey bread muffins. If you only have 30 minutes and want to whip up a quick breakfast or late night dessert for yourself, family, or friends, this is the recipe for you.

Let’s get into the recipe!

Equipment & Ingredients

To make this cinnamon roll monkey bread recipe you will need these ingredients:

  • Grand’s (Cinnabon) Cinnamon Rolls
  • White Granulated Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Butter

As for the ingredients, the list is much shorter! You will just need:

  • Cutting Board
  • Large Muffin Pan
  • Mixing Bowls

Cut and Coat the Dough

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit before getting started.

On a cutting board, remove all the cinnamon rolls from the container and set aside the frosting for later. Cut each cinnamon roll into 6 bite size pieces. In a separate bowl, mix the cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar together with a spoon fork until combined. I like to add a little nutmeg to change up the spice flavor, making it a bit nuttier.

Now dip all the cinnamon roll pieces into the cinnamon sugar mixture and coat thoroughly. Toss them around and press into the mixture so that really sticks to the dough.

Assemble the Muffins

Have a muffin pan prepared to transfer these coated bites to. In the container, there should be 5 large cinnamon rolls, meaning about 30 pieces overall. Be sure to place only 4 stuffed in the bottom of each muffin slot.

Heat the butter in the microwave or on the stove until completely melted. Drizzle some of this butter on top of all the bites in the pan. Now add a second layer of monkey bread bites on top. Only about 2-3 more on the top of the 4 piece layer. Once again coat everything with a generous amount of butter. This helps this delicious cinnamon roll monkey bread come out of the oven super moist later on.

I personally added a tablespoon full of heavy cream over each muffin. As many cinnamon roll enthusiasts know, add this to the top of any cinnamon rolls before baking, and you will create an even fluffier dessert when its finished, Any excess cinnamon and sugar mixture I have, I like to sprinkle on top after the butter and heavy cream is added.

Bake and Icing

Now place these in the oven for 20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Once out of the oven, take the frosting that was set aside earlier from the refrigerated cinnamon roll container, and spread this all over each muffin with a knife.

Let them cool for only a couple minutes before removing each of this from the pan and serving to your family or friends, or enjoying yourself. These warm, gooey and sweet cinnamon roll monkey bread muffins will literally have your taste buds screaming for joy.

And what’s even better, when you pull these babies apart you see the coated layers of melted butter creating the most moist, cinnamon-y dessert, topped with a sweet cream cheese icing. I’m currently wishing I still had some of these left, writing this late night blog.

If any dessert is a comfort dessert for me, it is definitely this cinnamon roll monkey bread. Honestly, any cinnamon roll dessert at all will do the trick for me! The hot, fluffy dessert intermingled with warm, sweet spices bring me so much joy. If comfort recipes are your jam…

Ingredients

  • I can refrigerated Grands Cinnabon cinnamon rolls

  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1 stick salted butter, melted

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Pop open the refrigerated cinnamon rolls and place on a cutting board. Set aside the icing container for later. Use a knife to slice each cinnamon roll into 6 bite size pieces. Repeat with all cinnamon rolls
  • In a small mixing bowl, add the sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix together with a spoon or fork until thoroughly combined. Dip each cinnamon roll piece into the mixture and coat thoroughly, pressing the dough into the cinnamon and sugar so that it sticks well.
  • Spray a muffin pan with baking spray. Place half of the bites in the first layer of 5 muffin holes.
  • Now pour a generous amount of melted butter all over the first layer of cinnamon roll bites.
  • Complete the second layer of cinnamon roll bites on top of the butter. ( My first layer had 4 bites at the bottom and 2-3 bites on the top, using only 5 muffin holes)
  • Repeat the butter drizzle again on top of the rest of the uncooked cinnamon roll pieces.
  • This step is optional, but add a tablespoon of heavy cream on top of each soon to be cinnamon roll monkey bread muffin. This adds fluffiness and softness to this finished dessert.
  • If there is any leftover cinnamon sugar mixture, sprinkles on the top of all the muffins. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Immediately coat all the muffins with the set aside icing from earlier. The icing will melt as its rubbed all over the hot muffins.
  • Remove from the pan after a minute or so of cooling and enjoy while still warm!
