Espresso Chocolate Bars

Are you a coffee fan? A cream cheese fan? Or even a chocolate fan? Than these espresso chocolate bars have ALL three delicious flavors melded together on top of a soft and thick Oreo crust. You simply can not go wrong with this decadent dessert.

I love rich and creamy flavors in my dessert and this recipe does not disappoint in that area. This recipe is made with common household ingredients and although looks gourmet only takes a little time and precision to create this masterpiece. Let’s get into this recipe!

Equipment & Ingredients

To make these espresso chocolate bars you will need these ingredients:

  • Oreos
  • Egg
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Espresso Powder
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Cream Cheese
  • Heavy Cream
  • Vanilla Extract
  • White Sugar

As for the equipment, the list is much shorter! You will just need:

  • 8×8 Baking Dish
  • Parchment Paper
  • Hand Mixer

Let me know how these espresso chocolate bars came out for you! This is also such a good recipe to tweak to your liking. You could make it an all chocolate cream cheese recipe instead of swirl bars. you also could omit the chocolate as a whole if you are an extreme cream cheese lover. Even replace the chocolate with strawberry, turning these into a strawberries and cream bar instead of espresso.

That is the beauty of baking. You can follow any recipe and create alterations to your own liking. I loved these espresso chocolate bars, but they are very rich. A good thing because first, you only need one to truly be satisfied and filled with joy, and two that leaves you to have so many extra bars to share with family and friends. At least if you don’t share the dessert, be sure to share this recipe with your family and friends!

Ingredients

  • Oreo Crust
  • 1 1/2 cups Oreo crumbs

  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tablespoon instant espresso

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 egg white

  • Filling
  • 12 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar

  • 2/3 cup heavy cream, divided

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso

  • 1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a 8x8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl add the Oreo crumbs white sugar and espresso. Mix together with a fork until the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
  • Add the egg white and melted butter next. Mix again until a thick Oreo paste forms. Pour this into the prepared baking pan and press into it evenly.
  • Bake this Oreo crust for 15 minutes.
  • While that is baking, take another larger bowl and add the cream cheese and ¾ cup of white sugar. Blend together until the mixture is lump free.
  • Pour in the vanilla and ⅓ cup of the heavy cream to the mixture. Blend with a hand mixer until smooth.
  • Once the Oreo crust is out of the oven and has cooled for at least 10 minutes, take 3 to four large dollops of the cream cheese filling and place on top of the baked Oreo crust. Be sure to spread these spoonful apart.
  • Set aside the rest of the cream cheese filling.
  • In a microwavable bowl or in a saucepan add the remaining ⅓ cup of heavy cream. Heat over the stove or in the microwave until warm.
  • Add the espresso powder and cocoa powder to the cream and stir until melted together.
  • Take this mixture and add it to the set aside cream cheese filling. Blend this together to create the espresso cream cheese filling until nice and smooth.
  • Place spoonfuls of this filling with the rest of the regular cream cheese filling in the baking pan.
  • Use a knife and drag through the brown and white cream cheese fillings in the pan to create a pretty swirl effect in the bars. Shake and lightly tap the baking pan on a sturdy table or counter to help the filling even out without ruining the swirl by spreading with a knife.
  • Sprinkle extra espresso powder or coffee seeds on top for garnish and chill for 4 hours.
  • Cut your bars and enjoy!
