Aren’t we tired of paying an arm and a leg for skincare that we could easily make at home?! We often don’t need more than a few natural ingredients to keep our skin clear, like this facial rose oil recipe, that only includes four. That and changing what we put in our bodies, are the biggest determiners, outside of hormonal imbalances, that will affect our skin.
But believe me I have been there with the struggle with acne, sensitive skin, and hyperpigmentation. So after spending lots of money on skincare in the past and even going to a dermatologist I decided to do my own research and find out if I could create a homemade face remedy for hyperpigmentation.
This rose facial oil is a homemade remedy for hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and reducing outbreaks. With only a couple essential oils, a lightweight carrier oil and some dried rose hips, you can create a beautiful and beneficial skincare recipe.
This is both the perfect DIY remedy for yourself or the perfect gift for any friend or family member. With a quick run to the store and mixing these 4 ingredients, this recipe will take you less than 30 minutes to make. Let’s get into it!
Equipment & Ingredients
To make this rose facial oil you will need these ingredients:
- Jojoba Oil (or any carrier oil)
- Dried Rose Hips
- Frankincense Essential Oil
- Tea Tree Essential oil
As for the equipment, the list is much shorter! You will just need:
- 2 ounce dropper bottle
Best Carrier Oil for Sensitive Skin?
- Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil is the perfect carrier oil for this rose facial oil because it is lightweight, includes anti-inflammatory properties and closely resembles the natural sebum our skin produces on its own. It includes Vitamin E and B which are key to skin regeneration and preventing hyperpigmentation. This was my carrier oil of choice today, but there are definitely other substitutions if needed.
- Rosehip Oil – Rosehip oil is high in Vitamin A and C and omega fatty acids. These properties create soft skin and keep a barrier on the skin from outside forces. This oil is another lightweight oil great for sensitive skin that also acts as a skin brightener, reducing dark spots and hyperpigmentation. This oil seemed unnecessary with the addition of the dried rose hips in the jojoba. The wonderful scent of rose will infuse into the jojoba carrier oil on its own as well as give the rose facial oil the added benefits from the roses.
- Grapeseed Oil – Grapeseed oil is an easily absorbed, lightweight oil great for skincare. With its properties of Vitamin E, antioxidants and essential fatty acids, this carrier oil brightens and tones skin. Collagen is also known as a huge benefit to the elasticity and cell health of your skin, and grapeseed oil’s antioxidants have the benefit of bonding with collagen to promote those benefits in your skin.
- Sweet Almond Oil – Sweet almond oil contains vitamins A, D, and E. This along with its richness in fatty acids helps even skin tone, rejuvenate skin and provides ant-inflammatory properties. If allergies to nuts are a problem, then by all means avoid this specific carrier oil.
How to Make the Rose Facial Oil
- In your 2 ounce dropper bottle, place the rose hips inside. you can keep them hole or slightly break some pieces off inside the bottle.
- Then pour in your jojoba oil or any carrier oil of your choice
- Drop in 8 drops of frankincense and tea tree oil into the bottle.
- Close the bottle with the dropper and gently shake around and mix the essential oils into the carrier oil.
- Let this sit for 1 week before using this rose facial oil. This will allow the dried rose hips to infuse its scent and benefits into the oil.
Benefits of Frankincense Essential Oil
I have known for awhile the benefits of frankincense essential and just essential oils in general since I was a kid. My parents used to have a large collection of essential oils to use as home remedy medicines, helping us get better from certain sickness, clearing our congestion, and using in a humidifier for us.
Frankincense is generally used to reduce pain, stress, anxiety and inflammation when used in an aromatherapy setting. When used on the skin it provides many other benefits, being known as one of the top essential oils for skin hyperpigmentation.
This essential oil is an astringent which helps fight against bacteria and blemishes in the skin. remove bacteria. Its properties include healing acids and anti-inflammatory properties that:
- help tone and lift the skin
- improve elasticity in the skin
- reduce acne scars and blemishes
- support cell regeneration
Benefits of Tea Tree Essential Oil
Important to this rose facial oil recipe is this tea tree essential oil. While frankincense has many properties that reduce hyperpigmentation and scarring, the tea tree essential oil fights against acne itself. It’s antibacterial and antifungal properties help with those who have both oily and acne prone skin.
This essential oil and the other ingredients work well together because they fight alongside each other. The others fighting the hyperpigmentation and increasing cell regeneration, while the tea tree helps prevent breakouts that would lead to more inflammation and skin scarring.
Always Dilute Essential Oils
When it comes to essential oils they are very potent. Always be sure to dilute this into another carrier oil or skincare product. This is why the ratio of essential oils to carrier oil in this rose facial oil recipe is so small.
Using these essential oils directly on the skin can cause irritation, redness, and a possibly breakout in itself.
And that is how you make this rose facial oil along with the benefits of all the ingredients within it. I love this recipe because it is such a simple and affordable way to create your own natural skin care and understand the use and benefits within each ingredient of the concoction.
