I’ve always wondered if it was easy to make homemade gummy bears. And after testing a couple recipes, I am here to say.. IT IS! These sour gummy hearts were so quick and simple, with only 4 ingredients needed.
It’s the season of love, which means this heart shaped recipe is perfect for any Valentine’s or Galentine’s day party. I love black cherry Kool-aid and that is the base of these sour gummy hearts. You can replace this with strawberry or watermelon, essentially any pink or red colored juice.
I plan to use these to create some fun goodie bags for my girlfriends this V-day. Let’s get into this simple recipe!
Equipment & Ingredients
To make these sour gummy hearts you will need these ingredients:
- Water
- Unflavored Gelatin
- Lemon Juice
- Black Cherry Kool-Aid
- Strawberry Jell-o Mix
- Honey (optional)
As for the equipment, the list is much shorter! You will just need:
- Heart Shaped Silicone Mold
- Saucepan/Small Pot
How to make the Sour Gummy Hearts
- In a small bowl, add the water and gelatin together. Stir with a spoon and set aside to let the gelatin set.
- In a saucepan, add the black cherry, lemon juice and Jell-o mix. Turn on medium heat and stir together, bringing to a simmer.
- Once hot and steaming, add the honey and melt by stirring in. Remove from the heat.
- Add the set gelatin into the saucepan and mix until it has fully melted into the mixture.
- Place your silicone mold in a pan. Then pour the black cherry mixture into your silicone heart molds and place in the refrigerator to set for at least 5 hours.
- Pop the hearts out of the mold and serve or place in baggies for the perfect sour gummy heart gift!
Serve and Enjoy!
And that is all it takes to make these sour gummy hearts. At this point serve this right away or store and wrap up in plastic bags as good or in a tightly sealed container at room temperature.
