  • Ice Cream
  • Caramel Sauce

Instructions

Prepare the Filling:

  • In a large bowl add the diced apples along with the brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and white granulated sugar. Fold together until the apples are completely coated.
  • THen heat a skillet on medium heat with 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted add the apple mixture and cornstarch.
  • Stir together and let the mixture simmer until the apples are tender and the sauce thickens slightly. Be sure to stir occasionally.
  • Once the filling is thickened, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the filling to cool for about 10 minutes.

Prepare the Puff Pastry

  • While the filling cools, preheat the oven according to the puff pastry package instructions.
  • Unroll the puff pastry dough on a lightly floured surface.
  • Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut the dough into 6 even squares.

Assemble the Turnovers

  • Spoon a generous amount of the chilled apple filling into the center of each square.
  • Take each corner of the square and fold towards the center, press into the center together.
  • Use a pastry brush to coat the turnovers in milk, to help them become golden brown in the oven.

  • Place the apple turnovers in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool a few minutes, before serving with caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
